Trail Journeys has a variety of independent cycle tours on the Otago Central Railtrail and this tour is one of the original popular options. To cycle the trail over 4 days gives you plenty of opportunities to explore the Central Otago area. Trail Journeys offer options to finish off off with a trip on the Taieri Gorge Excursion Train to Dunedin or to return to Clyde on our bus. (Neither options included in price)

From the start of the existance of the railtrail this package has stood out as the flagship of Trail Journeys products. It gives you plenty of opportunity to explore the best of what Central Otago can offer. Days of between 30km and 45km takes the pressure off and allows you to relax and make the most of the relaxed atmosphere
Meet the locals (More Info)
If you want to meet and mix with the local characters, the evening are a great time to do this. As you dine in the quaint hotels and resturants along the trail, many opportunities to talk to the farmers and present themselves. If you stay at the Hyde Hotel, get Ngaire, the owner to recite her poem. Stu at the Wedderburn Cottages is alway ready to share a yarn or two.

The Taieri Gorge Excursion Train, although not included in this package, it is an optional extra. A great way to finish the trail relaxing on the tourist train that links Middlemarch to Dunedin. This train is a very popular tourist attraction catering for the many cruise ships that come to Dunedin Harbour. Have a drink, a bite to eat and take in the awesome scenery of the Taieri Gorge.
