When it comes to cycling holidays, your equipment is vital in making sure you have a trouble-free and enjoyable time (the odd puncture aside!). We've spent a great deal of time and expense making sure our bikes are fit for purpose. We have a large selection of bikes sourced from leading bicycle manufacturers so that we can, in most cases, meet our client preferences.

Comfort Bikes (Standard Frame and Low Step Frame)

Our trail bikes are ideal for gravel trails. They feature an upright riding position, front suspension and a gel seat for maximum comfort. With their Australasian-designed Avanti frames and proven Shimano componentry, these bikes ensure the best possible riding experience. Our comfort bikes feature 29" wheels & hydraulic disc brakes.

Comfort e-Bikes (Standard Frame and Step Through Frame)

E-bikes have made cycle touring possible and pleasurable for a wide range of people. They are simple to operate, and eliminate much of the cycling strain from legs and knees. We have a large fleet of comfort eBikes in both standard and step through configuration. These are Sinch and Merida brand eBikes and are powered by Shimano motors with large capacity batteries. They include 29" and 27.5" wheels, hydraulic disc brakes and front suspension.

Mountain Bikes (Hard Tail)

We have a range of hard tail mountain bikes. The brands we carry are 24 speed Scott and 11 speed (1X) Marin mountain bikes. These bikes are suitable for those who generally ride and prefer a more 'aggressive' riding position. Our mountain bikes feature 29" or 27.5" wheels, hydraulic disc brakes and front suspension.

Mountain e-Bikes (Full Suspension)

We have a limited range of Full Suspension mountain eBikes. These are Sinch brand and powered by Bosch motors with extra-large capacity batteries. They include 29" and 27.5" wheels, hydraulic disc brakes and full suspension.

Children's Mountain Bikes (20" and 24" Frames)

Small bikes, with 20" wheels (multi speed). Designed for most children aged between 4-7 years.
Designed for most children aged between 8-11 years. Include Front Suspension.

Children's Mountain e-Bikes (24" and 46" Frames)

Small eBikes, with 24" & 26" wheels (multi speed). Shimano and Bosch powered bikes. Designed for most children aged between 8-11 years. Include Front Suspension and hydraulic brakes.

Children's Tag Along Bike

A 'third wheel' bike towed by the adult bike. trailer fitted with handlebars, pedals and seat for a small child.

Children's Trailers

Covered two-wheeled trailers, designed for 1-2 smaller children. These are towed behind the adult bikes.

Baby Seats

Fitted on the bike carrier on an eBike or comfort bike and is for very small children generally up to 3 years old.

Tandem Bikes

A bike built for two. Twice the fun? How good is your relationship?

Trail Journeys is able to cater for those less able with the use of recumbent bikes. | <i>Lachlan Gardiner</i>

Recumbent Tandem Bike

Another bicycle built for two, but in this case the front rider sits in a comfortable reclined seat and has the option to participate in the pedaling, but does not have to. Designed for people who would ordinarily not be able to cycle the trail.

Bike Hire Pricing

Prices for our bikes range between $40 (child's bike) and $230 (Dual Suspension Bikes)
All bike hire's include a helmet, repair kit and rear carry bag or pannier.
E-bikes are subject to availability.

Complete Back-up and Support

Bike hire on the Otago Rail Trail and beyond comes with complete back-up and support. Should there be a problem during your ride you can relax knowing we are only a phone call away. With our regular shuttles out along the trails everyday during the season we are usually not far from being able to get you back in the saddle quickly.

Note: Not available on remote sections of the Lake Dustan Trail and Alps to Ocean Trail
